The Evaluation of Sorghum as the Substitute for Corn in the diet of the Growth's Indigenous Chicken

Abstract

This paper outlines the effect of sorghum as the substitute for corn in the diet of 64 local indigenous chicken growers (F1 between local female chicken x male layer final stock) by the age of 2 months. The research was conducted in the poultry research cage of Sub Balai Penelitian Ternak Klepu, Kabupaten Semarang. Treatments were arranged in phases of R1: 45% corn without sorghum, R2: 30% corn + 15% sorghum, R3: 15% corn + 30% sorghum and R4: 45% sorghum without corn. Basal feed was prĂ©cised as iso calorie (ME = 2.700 kcal/Kg) and iso protein (protein = 15%). Average daily gain, feed consumption and feed conversion ratio were observed as parameters. Completely randomized design was employed through the experiment. Data were subjected to ANOVA using the general models procedure of SAS, T-test was used for further analysis. The result presented, the substitution of corn with sorghum was not significantly (P>0, 05) affect to the average of daily gain, feed consumption and feed conversion ratio of the birds. So, it can be concluded that sorghum can be used to substitute corn until 45% of the poultry’s diet.

Abstrak

Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan sorghum sebagai bahan baku ransum pengganti jagung pada ransum ayam buras persilangan (F1) periode pertumbuhan. Pelaksanaan dilakukan di kandang penelitian unggas Sub Balai Penelitian Ternak Klepu, Kabupaten Semarang. Materi yang digunakan adalah 64 ekor ayam buras persilangan filial 1 (betina buras x jantan ras petelur final stock) umur 2 bulan. Perlakuan yang diberikan adalah subtitusi jagung dengan sorghum secara bertahap yaitu R1: 45% jagung tanpa sorghum, R2: 30% jagung + 15% sorghum, R3: 15% jagung + 30% sorghum, R4: 45% sorghum tanpa jagung. Ransum disusun secara iso kalori (ME = 2.700 kkal/Kg) dan iso protein (protein = 15%). Rancangan yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Lengkap dengan 4 perlakuan ransum serta 4 ulangan. Parameter yang diamati meliputi pertambahan bobot badan, konsumsi ransum dan konversi ransum. Data dianalisis dengan analisis keragaman dan uji beda nyata terkecil bila terdapat perbedaan akibat pengaruh perlakuan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggantian jagung dengan sorghum sebagai bahan baku utama ransum tidak memberikan perbedaan pengaruh yang nyata (P>0,05) terhadap konsumsi ransum, pertambahan bobot badan maupun konversi ransum. Kesimpulan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sorghum dapat digunakan sebagai bahan baku pengganti jagung dalam ransum ayam buras persilangan (F1) periode pertumbuhan.
